How old do children have to be to go sea kayaking or canoeing?

We are delighted to invite children of all ages on our open canoe adventures which allows us to pair children with adults in tandem. We especially recommend our famous Hot Chocolate on a beach as a family adventure. We have a minimum age policy of 16 years old to join us in sea kayaks.

Can I bring my dog?

In kayaks, no. By Canoe YES! If you have a dog that you would like to share your adventure with please contact us before your journey. Normally we are happy to take dogs with us in our canoes. We do encourage owners to be responsible for their dog, particularly around deer, sheep and other wildlife.

Can I rent a kayak?

Rental of sea kayaking equipment and clothing is included in the price when you book onto one of our guided trips. We do not rent equipment, kayaks or canoes without a guide.

Do you provide double kayaks?

We only provide single sea kayaks, but we can do tandem canoes on our inland loch trips.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer to go kayaking?

No, although we ask you can swim to some degree. You will be wearing a buoyancy aid, which will ensure you float even if you do fall in too. It is beneficial however, to be confident in water.

What happens if the weather’s too bad to kayak?

Despite the north west highland’s reputation for windy weather, we are fortunate at Kayak Summer Isles to have lots of options to kayak in sheltered bays.In the extremely rare situation that it is too windy to paddle our guides will contact you within 24 hours of your trip and we will endeavour to re-arrange your course or offer a full refund. This is explained fully in our terms and conditions.
