At the southern tip of the Outer Hebrides, lies one of the finest sea kayaking destinations in the world.  The Isle of Barra, the neighbouring nine Bishop’s Isles, Pabbay, Mingulay and Barra Head, offer truly exceptional paddling – wild, challenging, remote, awe inspiring scenery, towering cliffs, lighthouses, white sand beaches and countless sea birds.  Our ultimate destination, route and itinerary depend on the weather, the wind, the Atlantic swells, together with the needs and wants of the group.  With countless islands to choose from and explore, as well as the coastline of Barra itself, this is one of the finest sea kayaking adventures to be had in Scotland.

Working together with Matt Haydock from Rapid Development, this is a 6 night camping expedition taking all our food and equipment with us in the boats with the aim of being self-sufficient for the duration of the expedition.  This gives us the opportunity to truly explore these stunning islands unrestricted, being closer to nature sleeping under canvas and have the social enjoyment of cooking, and perhaps sharing a “wee dram” together in the evenings, sharing stories of the day’s paddle.

We will foster a team ethos from the outset, and all trip planning and tidal calculations will of course always be shared and chatted through as a group throughout the expedition, and coaching and instruction in tidal planning will be available.

Who the trip is for:

This is a committing trip to a remote part of the UK out into the Atlantic, so you will be a confident “Intermediate+” sea kayaker who has done lots of paddling in stronger winds (force 4+) and swell (a metre or more), with a pretty reliable roll and self rescue. You will be comfortable paddling up to 30km distances in a day. You will also be well practiced at wild camping and outdoor cooking your own food.  Contact us if you are unsure as to whether or not this trip is appropriate for you.
